Forty-one minutes of watching a journal page go through every phase — blank, chaotic, ugly, layered, surprising — until it becomes something that didn’t exist when I sat down.

This is not a demonstration of technique. There’s no plan. Blue and orange happened to be closest to me, so that’s what I used. A leaf stencil appeared on the table at the right moment. The words “be you bravely” got written on the page because that’s what the page needed. None of it was decided in advance.

At one point I talk about craft fairs — about pouring my heart into something and watching people admire it and walk away. About what that did to me. About why I stopped making for anyone but myself. That’s in here too, because it’s part of why this kind of making matters.

The page in this video went through an ugly phase. A long one. It came out the other side.
